My son, age 16, has just been diagnosed with high blood pressure. He went to the doctor for a Sports physical, and it was discovered then. It's very highly unusual for a teenager to have high blood pressure!

I read the news the other day, and there was a story about more and more young and middle-aged people having high blood pressure these days than older people.

What's the reason/cause?...We've yet to find the reason for my son's diagnosis. He's been having lab work and seeing the doctor again next week. It's not his diet...

I can foresee many young people having this due to the economy and being jobless and stressed out. It's a good idea to have ur own blood pressure checked, otherwise it might involve you having a stroke or heart attack.

My son is very lucky we caught it before he continued to play extreme sports in high school. I feel the pressure of the training for football/tennis & weight lifting is the culprit, along with being concerned of his grades, making above a C average in order to play sports. He's a very busy and active teenager. His coach assured him that he could still be on the teams, be a waterboy until the doctor has cleared him to again be able to play sports.

We also keep our arguements/disagreements at home to a minimum and discuss them in a calm manner...no stress.

Have ur own blood pressure checked! For ur health and peace of mind, and ur children's also, no matter their age.
